The Volkswagen Passat is a mid-size sedan that benefits from a roomy interior and a broad choice of engines. The Passat comes well-equipped and well-built, with an upmarket interior and a composed ride. Power comes from a choice of two engines driving the front wheels: a 1.8-liter inline-4 turbo with 170 hp and a 3.6-liter V6 with 280 hp, mated to 6-speed automatic and dual-clutch transmissions.
Changes for 2017
The Volkswagen Passat comes standard with Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking across the lineup for 2017. The R-Line trim receives an updated audio system, a power driver seat, heated front seats, V-Tex leatherette seating surfaces, and a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert. The latter is also standard on SE trims, which also get KESSY keyless access with push-button start. A new SE with Technology trim, available with either the 1.8T or VR6 engine, adds remote start, Park Distance Control (Park Pilot), 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, and LED headlamps and tail lights.
The 2017 Volkswagen Passat Sedan is available in 7 trim levels.
