The Highlander is the smallest of Toyota's mid-size SUV's. What it lacks in size over the 4Runner, it makes up with a versatile interior featuring three-row seating for up to seven passengers. Though not as capable off-road as the FJ Cruiser, the Toyota Highlander convinces with good road-manners and more agile handling. The base Highlander comes powered by a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine driving the rear-wheels. A 3.5-liter V6 and all-wheel-drive are available, as is a hybrid version.
Changes for 2013
For 2013, the former Tech Package on the Highlander Base trim is replaced by a new Plus trim. In addition, all trims but Limited receive a new Display Audio system with a USB port, hands-free phone capability and music streaming via Bluetooth wireless technology. In the Highlander Plus and SE grades, the system includes the back-up camera.
On the Highlander Hybrid, the previous Leather Package is replaced by the Leather Premium Package that includes a power moonroof, leather-trimmed front and second-row seats and leatherette-trimmed third-row seat, leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear lever, multi-stage heated front seats, HomeLink universal transceiver and Bluetooth voice controls, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. Furthermore, a Display Audio system integrates Navigation and the Toyota Entune multi-media system, while the steering-wheel gains controls for the audio, Multi-Information Display and Bluetooth hands-free phone capability.
